Stamps are great for journaling because it gives you a place to start. First, write down your thoughts. Whatever is going on in your life right now, good or bad, write it down.
Stamp image onto your writing.
Color around the figure with Prismacolor Pencils.
Paint in the hair and I used Titan Buff for the face.
Paint around the box. I used Cobalt Blue. It gives a pop to the magenta. Color choice is one of the most important elements in art. It can give an entirely different look to a piece depending on what color palette you use. She is a cookie fairy, but these, to me, are Super Hero colors.
Lay on white gesso over writing with a palette knife. Now your journal words become an element of the background and not full sentances to read.
Bring gesso onto the adjacent page too. Dont be afraid to get paint on your photos.
Integrate the gesso with the palette knife into the blue to create a mess.
Gesso the back of your pages to make them stronger.
Prop your journal up and let dry before proceeding. RESIST the urge to keep going because wet paper tears easily. A suggestion: Drink hot chocolate in the sun curled up with a furry thing and look at the trees and clouds. By the time the cocoa is finished your pages should be dry. Put your book in the sun too.
Draw with pens and pencils little symbols of your life.
Stamp same image onto cardstock and cut out into a paper doll. That is thee most fun part of my stamps, how versatile they are. Although she is a 'Cupcake Fairy", you can use the image as just a regular girl.
On a little piece of cardstock write the essence of what was in your original entry. Often we write too many extra words and who has time to read all that. Get to the heart of what is going on in your life right now. Pick one memory that sticks out.
I want to remember when: "I saw the purple doors and the
red kitchen and all of the Mermaids everywhere. This is where
I belong." Put your doll and message in a little pocket. I got mine from something made at a scrapbook store. Scratch up its edges with sand paper so it doesn't look as store bought.
Embellish with rub ons.
James and the Giant Peach is an excellent movie to watch while journaling.
Here are my finished pages.
